Rabies tales from Los Angeles County

.jpg)
This comic, based on actual (and unfortunately common) events, was developed by Los Angeles County Veterinary Public Health. It's a good example of novel ways of communication regarding zoonotic diseases. More information from Los Angeles County Veterinary Public Health (and apparently future editions of Rabies Tales) can be found on their website.

This comic was well done, until it got to the end where it referred to only 4 sets of shots instead of 5. In Ontario there would be a final one on day 28. Is this a widespread new policy for US jurisdictions? If so, what is the research to support it?
An advisory committee in the US recommended dropping vaccination to 4 shots earlier this year. There's more information on a post here: http://www.wormsandgermsblog.com/2009/06/articles/diseases/rabies/recommended-changes-in-us-rabies-exposure-protocol/
Earlier this year, the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices approved a recommendation that only four shots were needed. It's based on research that looked at outcomes from people who hadn't gotten the full series for any number of reasons.
I can't find the CDC announcement, but here's the Boston Globe story:
